Military life isn’t for the weak. Deployment sucks. The days feel like years. It is truly one of the hardest thing a family can go through, something only those who have experienced can understand.
You wear your bravest face because you’re walking a fine line between keeping it together and breaking down. You worry every moment of every day. You live for the next phone call or care package, because sometimes it is enough to keep you going….it means they’re alright.
Then one day you get a call “I am coming home!” ….all thoes months of care packages and FaceTime are finished. You finally get to make your life complete again.
How your heart beats so hard the moment you see them for the first time in months…and the incredible love when you finally get that first hug and kiss. Experiencing an reunion of a family that has sacrificed so many days and months apart is something truly moving. I can still hear little man screaming “DaddyyyyY!” when he saw his Daddy and realized just why we were at the airport to begin with.
The run to each other seemed like it was in slow motion. The people around them melted away and then, just like that, all was right in the world. This little guy had his BFF back!
I have known Miss Penny’s family since her big brother was just 3 months old. I enjoyed following his growth with milestone sessions and was SUPER excited to learn that he was going to be a BIG BROTHER!
I truly love each and every one of my clients and this sweet family is no exception.
When styling her session, Penny’s mom said the words all newborn photographer live to hear…”I love everything you do, I trust you.”
Now don’t get me wrong , I love Pinterest, but no creative soul wants a board full of “must haves”. I don’t mind the occasional “inspiration” but Pinterest almost stifles my creativity.
I LIVE to create beautiful, unique art for each and every one of my clients. Thank you all for always supporting me and allowing me to make your and my visions come true in your images!
“The days are long but the years are short.” Everyone says your kids are going to grow so fast. They really, really do.
I made a promise to myself that I’d take the time to not only shoot more “big camera” photographs of my children but actually edit and print them. We all have a million iPhone pics of our kids. But will we really be happy with only having these low quality phone pics in 20 years? I swear every time I get a new phone I lose half of my photos anyway!
Even though I hated getting dressed up and hauled to K-Mart photo studio every year <barf> my parents took us to have our family photos taken at least once a year as kids. We have the horrid 80’s hair and fashion in prints to prove it!!
My daughter is always willing to get glammed up and do a photo shoot. My son…well he’d rather stay home and play.
Since the summer I’ve been trying to coax him into a themed shoot. I don’t always like themes but he’s 8 and lets face it, there aren’t many years left that he will humor me. Well tonight he didn’t say no! So we gathered props and the camera and this was the adorable result!
I hope you enjoy. ❤
*No fish were harmed during this photo shoot. The glass was empty, my mad skills and Photoshop made that fish appear*
Let me know if you need photographs of your littles. We don’t have many spring dates left.
What can I say about the Trainor family? I mean besides the obvious adorableness! I have had the privilege of watching them blossom from a young couple anticipating the arrival of there first child to a beautiful family of four!
Their faces say it all…pure happiness.
But, how could you not be happy raising these two adorable little fellas?
Last year at this time I sat utterly exhausted, ready to quit and so incredibly sad I had missed what seemed like every event and milestone my children had in 2015.
I have to say, those of you who stuck through it with me will forever be “my people” and thoes who have joined our Simply Newborn Family this year, thank you! This year I shot the least amount of sessions I have shot in the past 3 years and I couldn’t be happier! While the changes to my business were hard I knew something had to change or I was going to have to quit.
I started this thing back in 2010 to have a way to destress and help pay for vacations and Christmas, what have you. It swiftly became a full time job to my already full time job! So I sat down and made some drastic changes to my schedule, prices and my life!
2016 came with pricing overhaul, SET schedules, and saying NO! <— that’s hard. When someone who used to come to you for $100 with all the files wants the old deal, learning to say no and value yourself is not fun or easy. But in business you have to separate your emotions from business decisions, which is difficult when you’re a creative spirit. There have been many tears and heartaches when I see “my clients” book with other and most certainly cheaper photographers. That’s when I realized, they weren’t really “my clients”, they were here for the deal. While that may sound harsh, it is reality. It is the reality all small business owners face. Never the less these changes were necessary not only to still financially provide the extras for my family but to still be a PART of my family. Learning to value my craft and my time and stop being afraid to charge what I am worth has been a heck of an adventure and a learning experience.
I had one of my long time clients, talking back to 2012 when I didn’t even use photoshop..said to me at her consultation “It is about time your prices reflect your talent. You have undervalued your work for too long!” <3
So here is to MY people! Lol, 2016 in review <3 I love you all and hope to see you in 2017.
It is a yearly tradition I have come to cherish, my session with the Hooper family! Every year I am amazed at their ability to nail their session in record time.
This year we were met with some extra challenges. Our original session date was postponed by Hurricane Matthew.
So we set another date only to arrive at the preplanned beach access point to find several photographers and their clients who had their cars broken into and a park ranger who was “going to lock us in”…so needless to say…we hurried to find another nearby beach access with only minutes to spare before sunset.
In pure Hooper fashion these four cranked out smiles and delight and we completed there session with only minute of daylight left.
To say I am thankful for those who continue to support this little business of mine year after year would be an understatement. Even as I evolve and change my business there are so many of you who continue to allow me to capture your memories. While I know you could easily go to someone who is offering slightly out of focus images for $30 sessions, you choose my art and trust my vision. I am eternally gratefully for you all!
