“The days are long but the years are short.” Everyone says your kids are going to grow so fast. They really, really do.
I made a promise to myself that I’d take the time to not only shoot more “big camera” photographs of my children but actually edit and print them. We all have a million iPhone pics of our kids. But will we really be happy with only having these low quality phone pics in 20 years? I swear every time I get a new phone I lose half of my photos anyway!
Even though I hated getting dressed up and hauled to K-Mart photo studio every year <barf> my parents took us to have our family photos taken at least once a year as kids. We have the horrid 80’s hair and fashion in prints to prove it!!
My daughter is always willing to get glammed up and do a photo shoot. My son…well he’d rather stay home and play.
Since the summer I’ve been trying to coax him into a themed shoot. I don’t always like themes but he’s 8 and lets face it, there aren’t many years left that he will humor me. Well tonight he didn’t say no! So we gathered props and the camera and this was the adorable result!
I hope you enjoy. ❤
*No fish were harmed during this photo shoot. The glass was empty, my mad skills and Photoshop made that fish appear*
Let me know if you need photographs of your littles. We don’t have many spring dates left.
Last year at this time I sat utterly exhausted, ready to quit and so incredibly sad I had missed what seemed like every event and milestone my children had in 2015.
I have to say, those of you who stuck through it with me will forever be “my people” and thoes who have joined our Simply Newborn Family this year, thank you! This year I shot the least amount of sessions I have shot in the past 3 years and I couldn’t be happier! While the changes to my business were hard I knew something had to change or I was going to have to quit.
I started this thing back in 2010 to have a way to destress and help pay for vacations and Christmas, what have you. It swiftly became a full time job to my already full time job! So I sat down and made some drastic changes to my schedule, prices and my life!
2016 came with pricing overhaul, SET schedules, and saying NO! <— that’s hard. When someone who used to come to you for $100 with all the files wants the old deal, learning to say no and value yourself is not fun or easy. But in business you have to separate your emotions from business decisions, which is difficult when you’re a creative spirit. There have been many tears and heartaches when I see “my clients” book with other and most certainly cheaper photographers. That’s when I realized, they weren’t really “my clients”, they were here for the deal. While that may sound harsh, it is reality. It is the reality all small business owners face. Never the less these changes were necessary not only to still financially provide the extras for my family but to still be a PART of my family. Learning to value my craft and my time and stop being afraid to charge what I am worth has been a heck of an adventure and a learning experience.
I had one of my long time clients, talking back to 2012 when I didn’t even use photoshop..said to me at her consultation “It is about time your prices reflect your talent. You have undervalued your work for too long!” <3
So here is to MY people! Lol, 2016 in review <3 I love you all and hope to see you in 2017.
Miss C is One! I have had the pleasure of photographing little miss C since she came to the studio for her newborn sessions when she was just a few days old. She is one of the most photogenic kids I have ever worked with….even if she mean mugs me half the time! I was really excited when her mommy contacted me about planning a cake smash session for her. Even if I cannot wrap my head around her being one already.
Miss C’s mommy made this adorable cake and her awesome banner too! Much like her newborn session Miss C played hard to get…thankfully we were able to get some adorable images of her 1st birthday milestone. I mean…the one of her looking at her newborn portrait..COME ON, stop the cuteness!!! Even when she’s giving me her serious stare she is just a doll face! <3
Well, it seems Miss C isn’t a big fan of cake. I cannot relate, at all! However we were able to capture her sweet little spirit despite her distaste for cake.
When Miss K’s mommy contacted me about her cake smash I was ECSTATIC!! Alice in Wonderland is one of my all time favorite stories! I immediately started searching for the perfect props to make my vision come alive. there were a lot off Alice in ONEderland themed mins on Pinterest, but I wanted something unique. When my cake goddess, Liberty of Creative Cakes by Liberty, moved away I knew no one would ever be able to meet my expectations like Liberty did. So I challenged myself to learn to make and decorate cakes….this is BY FAR my favorite. Miss K. wasn’t too impressed with the cake but she surprised both her momma and me with tons of adorable images! Can I take a moment to brag on mommy for this adorable Alice inspired tutu outfit! Come on, how adorable!!!! You can view her entire gallery here.
Do you have a little one who is getting ready to turn one?
Let me help you create memories you will cherish forever and ever!!

If you are anything like me, then Back to School time is a busy time for your family. Before the new school year dust settles we are inundated with homework, rules, paperwork fundraisers, and fall school portraits. If you are anything like me you forget your child has picture day and they end up in an old t-shirt with bedhead!! I always feel obligated to buy the terrible photos anyway because, well, because it is my baby!! I can’t just let them throw pictures away of my baby!! Not to mention keeping the tradition alive of keeping a school photo each year and comparing growth from one grade to the next. Well after a few years of less than stellar school pictures I decided to be proactive this year and take my kiddos back to school photos, Simply Newborn style!
They ended up being adorable and I decided to open them up to all of you! I am thrilled with the results!!! If you missed out, don’t worry I think this will be an annual affair.
It is always wonderful when a newborn client returns for a Family Session, but when they contact you wanting to surprise their wife with a family session for Mother’s Day, I mean come on, how sweet is that, epic right?!?
Guys don’t get me wrong, I know we give you a hard time, but it is usually the wives who make contact and set everything up for these sessions.
With the new year approaching I’d like to take a moment and address some changes coming to our business. While we know change is hard and sometimes uncomfortable we are here for you. We can’t wait to introduce you to the new simply newborn and all we have to offer!!!
The first change is our schedule. A certain number of days are reserved for sessions each month and when they are gone they are gone. If you know you’ll be wanting portraits take this year do not delay. We are already closed for certain months.
Last year we had a many requests for more options. We had a lot of people asking “Do you have an option for less that included xyz” “I don’t really need 40 images can I get a package that has 20?” “Can I trade this for that?” Etc.
So we have developed a pricing structure that we think will have something for everyone and creates a build it your way sort of feel. Speaking of pricing some of our fees have gone up and some have gone down. Many factors, (most of which are out of our control) go into pricing. We strive to keep pricing fair and competitive. It’s no different than buying a new car. You wouldn’t expect a 2016 to cost what your new car cost in 2013.

The next change and probably the one most people will get nervous about is digital files. As an industry photographers are moving away from providing and selling digital images. While we are not eliminating them from our menu, they will certainly be priced based on their value. I’m willing to bet it will not be an option in a few years. Just as selling negatives was a no go many moons ago. We are all about quality and we cannot provide you with quality if you’re printing elsewhere.
Online galleries will be phased out and orders will be take in person. We have transitioned to in-person reveal and ordering sessions. This is so much fun! We come to you, or you can come to us and we go through your images one by one and select products and prints to suit your needs. It’s like Christmas morning seeing you guys experience your images for the first time! It has quickly become one of my favorite parts of the experience 🙂
Referrals. I suck at keeping track. Sorry. I’m planning a better system. Promise.
One thing that’s constantly being refined is our style. This year we are going for timelessness. Neutral colors, simplistic posing and props. <—hence the big prop sale 🙂
One thing that hasn’t changed. Our commitment to you. Our devoted and loyal clients.
<—-even if you’ve strayed and had a photographer affair, we still love you!
We promise to aim for perfection, provide products of the highest quality and pour love in every image as we always have. Many of you are more like family to us. We can’t wait to see you on the other side of our lens in 2016!!
