Why does it feel like I never blogged these sweet kids and their Milk and Cookies Sessions?!? Oh, yeah, because I am WAYYYYY behind. <—– Story of my life!
It is always fun to plan our annual Children’s Christmas Sessions.
This year I thought I would take it back to our VERY first theme from 2011, Milk and Cookies!
Each child got to sip milk and nibble on cookies all while adorning their coziest christmas pajamas! Who wouldn’t love that?!?!
At the end of each session the kids all received a personalized cookie courtesy of ME, yep I also bake, and never sleep.
What can I say about the Trainor family? I mean besides the obvious adorableness! I have had the privilege of watching them blossom from a young couple anticipating the arrival of there first child to a beautiful family of four!
Their faces say it all…pure happiness.
But, how could you not be happy raising these two adorable little fellas?
Last year at this time I sat utterly exhausted, ready to quit and so incredibly sad I had missed what seemed like every event and milestone my children had in 2015.
I have to say, those of you who stuck through it with me will forever be “my people” and thoes who have joined our Simply Newborn Family this year, thank you! This year I shot the least amount of sessions I have shot in the past 3 years and I couldn’t be happier! While the changes to my business were hard I knew something had to change or I was going to have to quit.
I started this thing back in 2010 to have a way to destress and help pay for vacations and Christmas, what have you. It swiftly became a full time job to my already full time job! So I sat down and made some drastic changes to my schedule, prices and my life!
2016 came with pricing overhaul, SET schedules, and saying NO! <— that’s hard. When someone who used to come to you for $100 with all the files wants the old deal, learning to say no and value yourself is not fun or easy. But in business you have to separate your emotions from business decisions, which is difficult when you’re a creative spirit. There have been many tears and heartaches when I see “my clients” book with other and most certainly cheaper photographers. That’s when I realized, they weren’t really “my clients”, they were here for the deal. While that may sound harsh, it is reality. It is the reality all small business owners face. Never the less these changes were necessary not only to still financially provide the extras for my family but to still be a PART of my family. Learning to value my craft and my time and stop being afraid to charge what I am worth has been a heck of an adventure and a learning experience.
I had one of my long time clients, talking back to 2012 when I didn’t even use photoshop..said to me at her consultation “It is about time your prices reflect your talent. You have undervalued your work for too long!” <3
So here is to MY people! Lol, 2016 in review <3 I love you all and hope to see you in 2017.
It is a yearly tradition I have come to cherish, my session with the Hooper family! Every year I am amazed at their ability to nail their session in record time.
This year we were met with some extra challenges. Our original session date was postponed by Hurricane Matthew.
So we set another date only to arrive at the preplanned beach access point to find several photographers and their clients who had their cars broken into and a park ranger who was “going to lock us in”…so needless to say…we hurried to find another nearby beach access with only minutes to spare before sunset.
In pure Hooper fashion these four cranked out smiles and delight and we completed there session with only minute of daylight left.
To say I am thankful for those who continue to support this little business of mine year after year would be an understatement. Even as I evolve and change my business there are so many of you who continue to allow me to capture your memories. While I know you could easily go to someone who is offering slightly out of focus images for $30 sessions, you choose my art and trust my vision. I am eternally gratefully for you all!

I don’t normally schedule cake smashes for kids older that one, but when this handsome fella’s mom asked if I would do one at two since we weren’t able to do it on his 1st birthday I said SURE! You may remember this little guy from his 6 month portraits, how could you forget those cheeks?!?
Mr. A was full of mischief and once he touched the frosting…it was all over! He was clearly not into the cake and let us know. I may be weird but sometime the crying pictures are my favorite.
We attempted to make a Facebook Live video
of his session and I am glad we did…it isn’t all glamour this life of photography. I always giggle a little to myself when someone says “I have a friend with a nice camera who is going to do our pics”. Because there is SO much more than a camera required. Your memories are worth the investment in a professional. Who knows, your child may scream the entire time, will your friend with a camera still get good quality images? You invest in more than an expensive camera when you pay for professional photography. Ready to plan your session? Contact us today!
Miss C is One! I have had the pleasure of photographing little miss C since she came to the studio for her newborn sessions when she was just a few days old. She is one of the most photogenic kids I have ever worked with….even if she mean mugs me half the time! I was really excited when her mommy contacted me about planning a cake smash session for her. Even if I cannot wrap my head around her being one already.
Miss C’s mommy made this adorable cake and her awesome banner too! Much like her newborn session Miss C played hard to get…thankfully we were able to get some adorable images of her 1st birthday milestone. I mean…the one of her looking at her newborn portrait..COME ON, stop the cuteness!!! Even when she’s giving me her serious stare she is just a doll face! <3
Well, it seems Miss C isn’t a big fan of cake. I cannot relate, at all! However we were able to capture her sweet little spirit despite her distaste for cake.
When Miss K’s mommy contacted me about her cake smash I was ECSTATIC!! Alice in Wonderland is one of my all time favorite stories! I immediately started searching for the perfect props to make my vision come alive. there were a lot off Alice in ONEderland themed mins on Pinterest, but I wanted something unique. When my cake goddess, Liberty of Creative Cakes by Liberty, moved away I knew no one would ever be able to meet my expectations like Liberty did. So I challenged myself to learn to make and decorate cakes….this is BY FAR my favorite. Miss K. wasn’t too impressed with the cake but she surprised both her momma and me with tons of adorable images! Can I take a moment to brag on mommy for this adorable Alice inspired tutu outfit! Come on, how adorable!!!! You can view her entire gallery here.
